DIY SUMMER TREAT TO COOL YOUR DOG IN 2 MINUTES

Posted by Belinda Bird on

Summer is here and it is time to start thinking about ways to combat the heat. We all feel it, our pets included, and the best way to keep them cool is with this super fast and extremely easy refreshing treat.

This will take you around 2 minutes to make and cost around $2... and your dog is going to love it!!!

I love and thrive off of summer. Days spent at the beach, family BBQ's, bush walks with Zephyr... but as a pet parent, it also makes me nervous. Over the years I have seen and nursed countless dogs suffering from heatstroke. The symptoms hit hard and fast, and if effective action isn't taken immediately it can very easily become fatal. Panting can occur for a number of reasons, you can find out why here

All pets need treats, we use them to say I love you, and we use them to reward good behaviour, but this 'treat' has a very specific in its purpose, and that is to cool down your dog on a hot summers day and provide some much deserved licking enjoyment.

HOW TO MAKE A COOLING SUMMER DOG TREAT IN MINUTES

This is so simple that you will question why you hadn't thought of it before! In just a few easy steps you will have your dog chillaxin' in the back yard in no time.

Utensils

  • Large Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Container large enough to support the size block you would like to make

Ingredients

  • Water
  • Salt Reduced Chicken or Vegetable Stock. The reason I have not mentioned Beef stock is that allergies to Beef are surprisingly common in dogs.

Method

  1. Place the amount of hot/warm water you want to freeze into a bowl.
  2. Add your stock, remembering that it is only to flavour the water. You do not need to freeze full strength stock. Even salt reduced stock is still high in salt. I mixed around 3-4 litres of water with 2 stock cubes.
  3. Stir until completely mixed or dissolved.
  4. Pour the liquid into your container.
  5. Place it in the freezer overnight.

Just like that, you have made a flavoured frozen and cooling treat for your dog. Now you can sit back, relax, and whatch him go crazy for it!
